Newcastle Airport is 14 km north of Newcastle, New South Wales. It is the 12th busiest
airport in Australia, handling almost 1.2 million passengers .Newcastle Airport
was named Regional Airport of the Year by the Australian airports industry. The
airport runway is shared with the RAAF Base Williamtown. Even though this base is
a military airfield, civilian operations are permitted. Jetstar, Virgin Blue, QantasLink,
Aeropelican, Brindabella Airlines and Norfolk Air operate flights to Sydney, Melbourne,
Brisbane, Gold Coast, Canberra, Port Macquarie and Norfolk Island.

handle anything up to a Boeing 747. The terminal facilities were upgraded in November
2005 to cope with future demand and security requirements. In that same year, Impulse
Airlines, a regional airline and later one of Australia's first low cost airlines,
established a base at the airport in the early 1990s, creating a maintenance facility.
The airport is now the maintenance base for Jetstar's Airbus A320 fleet. The base
also provides third party aircraft maintenance for the Qantaslink Boeing 717.
Accessible toilets are located behind the retail concourse and in the departures
lounge. There are two Newcastle Permanent Building Society ATMs located next to
the security screening point. Baby change facilities, equipped with change-table
and nappy bin, are located within the disabled toilet in both the departures lounge
and behind the retail concourse. Dedicated disabled parking spaces are in a convenient
location in the Platinum, Gold and Silver Car Parks. These are clearly marked and
are reserved for passengers with cars displaying a valid ‘disability’ card.
A disabled pick-up area is located at the arrivals end of the terminal with a wheelchair
ramp. The car must display a valid ‘disability’ card and the driver must stay with
the vehicle at all times. Newcastle Airport provides free-of-charge wireless internet
facilities throughout Customers can now check their email or surf the net at of
the two internet kiosk stations inside the terminal. The internet kiosks are located
on the retail concourse, next to the ATM’s. Passengers can also access the kiosk
in the departure area, once they have passed through security.
Smoking is not permitted inside the terminal, or within seven meters of an entry
door. Newcastle Airport has provided designated outside smoking areas at either
end of the terminal building. Baggage trolleys are available at the check-in and
arrivals ends of the terminal. Conveniently located outside the arrivals area of
the terminal, transport to and from the airport includes buses, car rental, limousine,
shuttle buses, and taxis. Wheelchairs are available upon request from your airline
or by approaching a Newcastle Airport Operations staff member.
