Rockhampton Airport is a major Australian regional airport that services the city
of Rockhampton, with flights to the cites of Brisbane, Sydney, Gladstone, Cairns,
Townsville, Mackay and Melbourne. Rockhampton Airport handles about 650,000 domestic
and approximately 6,000 international passengers travel through the terminal. In
2009, the airport handled 725,000 passengers making it the 16th busiest airport
in Australia.
The Rockhampton Airport has been named the 2007 Australian Major Airport of the
Year at the prestigious National Awards in recognition of Excellence in Australian
Aviation, in Melbourne. The terminal is also serviced by bus and taxi, with regular
connections to Rockhampton City and the Capricorn Coast provided by Youngs Bus Service
and other local operators. Early in 2000 the Airport runway was extended and associated
pavements upgraded, resulting in the ability to accommodate unrestricted wide-bodied
operations. The Airport is now used by both domestic and international airlines
using a mix of wide-bodied aircraft including the B747 to B777 and A340 types.
Rockhampton Airport has the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), the RACQ Capricorn
Helicopter Rescue Service (CHRS) and our on-airport Rescue Fire Fighting Service
(ARFF).Three parking options are available for public parking at Rockhampton Airport
– Short Term, Premium Long Term and Long Term. There are designated car parks for
each area and there is no need to book your vehicle in advance. The 2 minute drop
off and pick up zone has been expanded and relocated in the short term car park.
You have a 15 minute “grace” period to greet or farewell passengers and loved ones
without being charged. The zone was moved due to a mandate from the Office of Transport
Security that vehicles cannot be unattended at the front of the terminal. The change
in location of the drop off and pick up zone will significantly decrease congestion
at peak times and improve the visitor experience to Rockhampton Airport If you’re
planning a short stay at the airport (less than one day), the Short Term car park
is your best option and is located in the original car park closest to the terminal.
The Premium Long Term car park is located close to the terminal and has covered
walkways.
Parking is charged on a per day basis. One 'day' is defined as a 24hr period, commencing
upon entry to the car park. The Long Term car park is a further distance from the
terminal in comparison to the Premium Long Term car park. This is a new car park,
which will provide an additional 313 parking spaces. The Short Term, Premium Long
Term and Long Term Car Parks will be locked after the last flight of the day and
patrolled by a security guard 24 hours a day. In addition, we will have CCTV cameras
installed at locations throughout all three car parks which can be monitored from
the central control room. Disabled parking bays are available throughout the car
parks and are situated along the walkway to the terminal for ease of access.
